Fortect VPN — Quick Troubleshooting Guide

George Picardal

Run into connection problems? Start with the simple checks below before you contact Support.

Can’t connect at all

  • Verify your internet works without the VPN.
  • Click the protocol drop-down (Settings → Protocol) and switch to WireGuard → IKEv2 → OpenVPN (TCP), in that order.
  • Try a different server. If Fastest fails, pick any nearby country under Choose Location.
  • Restart the Fortect app. (Menu → Exit, then reopen).
  • Reboot your PC if the tunnel still won’t start.

Stuck on “Connecting…”

  • Restart the Fortect app (Menu → Exit, then reopen) to clear any hung connection attempt.
  • Disable and re-enable your Wi-Fi / Ethernet adapter.
  • Pause any other VPN or proxy software—you can run only one tunnel at a time.
  • Temporarily turn off third-party firewalls; if that fixes it, add Fortect to the allowed list.

Can’t find a specific server you used before

  • Search the list: In Choose Location, type the city or country name
  • Server temporarily offline: If the exact city is undergoing maintenance, Fortect hides it until it’s back.
  • Connect to the nearest alternative or use Fastest Connection and try again later.

Slow speed or high ping

  • Connect to the closest server in Choose Location.
  • Switch to WireGuard for the lowest latency.
  • Stop large downloads/updates running in the background and retest.
